The term "microcredit" identifies a small loan for the benefit of a person who cannot provide collateral. Muhammad Yunus has shown that microcredit can be an effective instrument of development in emerging countries: in fact the poor derive actual benefits from the credit realizing micro entrepreneurial activities, becoming successful managers of resources and returning the credit.
In recent years the phenomenon of microcredit has given way to that of Microfinance, which identifies the set of financing services to of low-income customers. Microfinance can make an important contribution to achieving the Millennium Development Goals, the 8 large commitments taken by the Governments of the 189 States members of the United Nations to reduce poverty by 2015. From some time even industrialized countries are implementing development programs based on Microfinance: industrialized societies are continuously evolving and unfortunately they are unable to address all social problems, so microfinance can be an instrument of social and economic inclusion.
Finance Channel has an area devoted to this subject because it wants to explore the opportunities that microfinance can generate in the Italian economic and social environment, helping to create innovative services dedicated to companies and individuals.

Risk Management can be declined in financial risk management, on which several legislative measures, such as Basel 2, intervened ,and in the integrated management of business risks in non-financial enterprises. The Finance Channel area on Risk Management, while remaining committed on both sides, has a particular focus on the second point, namely the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) in non-financial enterprises, which compared to the first is developing much more slowly, at least in Italy.
According to De Loach, Managing Director of Protiviti and Advisory Board Member of COSO, ERM is a structured methodology that takes into account all aspects of business management: strategies, market processes, financial resources, human resources, technologies. It's an integrated approach, focused on future-oriented processes that can help organizations manage risks and identify business opportunities. In fact, it allows to look at risks not only as a threats but also as opportunities for companies, which, through active management of risks, can increase their competitive advantage; this is particularly relevant in an increasingly globalized world, where openness to international markets brings more opportunities, yet also involves a higher risk profile.
Today, ERM is implemented in large multinationals, especially in sectors such as Energy, Oil & Gas, Chemicals and Petrochemicals, while it is still not known in smaller and local companies. Finance Channel, on one side, aims at raising awareness among entrepreneurs to these issues through meetings and publications, on the other side carries on research and develops other activities to identify best practices and guidelines for their implementation.
